UNDERLAYER

This series is about release, and what happens when it does not come.

Linear grids, architectural underlayers, and hard edges carry the burden of self-reliance. Every canvas starts there, opening only when that control is let go. Cool tones mark the places of highest tension and emotional uncertainty, while warm tones embody God’s presence, buried beneath rigid geometry where control is held, and breaking through where trust takes over.

The degree of structural restraint left on a canvas is the record of how much was surrendered. None of these spaces fully settle. They remain held between containment and openness, which is where the releasing happens. That release is not a technique. It is trust, and the work only opens when control is given back to God.
